Ideation is an admission drawcard
We created an online workshop to generate interest from high school students in JMC Academy and their Canvas Awards competition.
JMC Academy created a competition aimed at generating interest in their design, animation courses called the Canvas Awards for high school students. They were hoping that this year they could launch a workshop for the students to help them come up with their ideas for their entry and get engaged. To bring the session to life we enlisted an Illustrator, Edward Dyer, to document the session.
Studio Riz crafted a customised workshop breaking down how to come up with a unique perspective on all aspects of the competition. We broke it down into 4 keys parts:
What could we create? - types of art or design is possible (eg. posters memes, video, gif, 3D or motion graphics)
How could we create? - analogue (drawing, painting, screen printing, embroidery, photograph) or digital (Adobe Software, Procreate or Cinema 4D)
Why are we creating? - breaking down the brief/quote as inspiration, defining the terms, researching the context and analysing associations.
Distilling your idea - acknowledge the evolution of your idea and now streamline these ideas into a story by asking the Who, What, Where, How and Why?
The final result was an amazing whiteboard animation which was an amazing takeaway for all the students. The live draw element really helped us bring all the student's ideas together into one final example piece as a proof of concept.
If you’re ever looking to strategise or brainstorm ideas feel free to reach out and we can help create something bespoke for your needs.

Our artist documented all the ideas from the event and combined ideas from all the participants to create a unique story based on the quote “Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.” by Jean-Paul Sartre and utilising the motif of using a Fish Bowl
