BLACK’s brand refresh founded in sharp simplicity

 

A client recognising the need for a website overhaul is a great start. Successful redesign requires thoughtful analysis of client needs and practical processes.

BLACK, previously known as 'Black Interiors', reached out to various design agencies for change. However, their flashy presentations didn't align with their needs as agencies offered solutions without understanding their business.

BLACK needed to stop and take a look inwards, see who they were and where they wanted to be. To better understand their identity and goals, Studio Riz conducted a strategy workshop. During the workshop, Studio Riz explored possibilities and gathered ideas through insightful questions. The ideas were then presented as a virtual mood board to the client. “Far more professional than the other workshops (from other agencies) we had been a part of”. 

Key takeaways from the workshop included:

  • Black Interiors needed to be simply known as "BLACK" as they offer more than just interior services especially as they expand their business.

  • Competitors had similar websites. A refresh was needed, but it should be an evolution, not a revolution.

  • Clarity and structure were necessary to attract the right clients and leverage their track record and storytelling to win new business and retain loyal clients.

Based on these insights, Studio Riz helped BLACK refine their branding with a sharper logo. The expanded colour palette, inspired by New Zealand's landscape and raw materials, gave them more design flexibility. Elegant font choices were carefully paired for a strong sense of hierarchy and visual story flow.

Our focus shifted to the website, which was re-architected for clear communication of services and to highlight why BLACK is the best choice. This was followed by the creation of easy-to-use branded company templates for reports, marketing, presentations and other documents.
